A couple weeks ago, Mommy and Grandpa Paul skied the Vasaloppet for the first time. Me and Momma and Grandma Annie were there to cheer them on at the starting gate. There were over 900 people skiing the 35K with Mommy and Grandpa! The place where the race started was a big winter party with big bonfires and hot blueberry soup served in little paper cups. There were many women dressed in traditional Swedish fashions - long black wool skirts with decorative embroidered hems and beautiful red wool jackets. They were all ringing hand bells as they walked around enjoying the festivities. A little over half way through the race, Mommy stopped to help a seriously injured fellow skier. My Mommy waited with this woman until the paramedics arrived by snowmobile and in doing so, she lost an hour of time to the finish line. Momma said she was proud of Mommy for finishing the race, but she REALLY admired Mommy most for sacrificing a quick finish to help someone in need. My Mommy is awesome! Momma, Grandma Annie and I were there to cheer Grandpa and Mommy across the finish line and it was really fun to see them get their ribbons. I can't wait until I'm big enough to ski the Vasa too!
